Week 6/? of being unemployed. Here's what's been going down.
🗄 I followed up with the Department of Children and Family Services about all the paperwork they requested. ICYMI: They asked for a bunch of documentation about my life and my family's life to get food stamps. I delivered everything in person. Their staff treated me poorly. I would report the individuals but they never gave me their names; they didn't bother introducing themselves. I dropped all my documentation in a drop box. I'll be calling next week.
🖇 I got a call from the Department of Labor. I was treated poorly (again). I should get a determination about my claim for unemployment assistance within a week.
💴 The last of my severance comes at the beginning of August. Let's all hold our breath to see if the government assistance arrives in time.
📨 I received over a dozen generic rejection emails for job applications.
🤼 I have over 3 recruiters reaching out about the same job, from the same organization. They are all based internationally. None of them said my name right. I may play a game with them by replying to their emails and correcting the spelling of my name. We'll see which one breaks out their script first to realize I'm pulling their leg.
🎪 I'll be attending a virtual job fair tomorrow morning. I haven't attended one of these since 2020. Pray for me.
💊 I got the insurance company to approve my breast reduction, despite the delay in enrolling in COBRA. I can finally start addressing the root cause of my chronic migraines and pain.
🎂 I celebrated one of my closest friend's 30th birthday at an Italian restaurant. I bought her a green purse from Goodwill. We laughed a lot.
🐕 My dog tried oranges for the first time. She enjoys bananas, cucumbers, berries, and tangerines. She turns one on 7/23.
🚗 I'm going to Asheville, NC this weekend to kayak with friends.
I'm not going to lie: I'm feeling a bit stressed out, y'all. My deep well of optimism is dangerously low. How are you all coping? What's been your biggest hurdle as the weeks turn into months?
