๐๏ธ Week 10/? in Unemployment Land. This week has been a lesson about engagement.
๐ช I'm a naturally introverted person. That may come as a shock to some of my colleagues but it's the truth. Engaging with others is taxing to my energy level which is why networking has, historically, been challenging for me. I dislike social events, job fairs, coffee chats, and anything in that realm.
However, I'm learning how to navigate my energy expenditures. As my grandmother would often tell me, Shanice, you don't have to always be in the mix. I'm confident now that I know how to say yes and when to say no.
๐ค๐ฟ I find that being direct isn't being rude: people value honesty above frivolous pleasantries. Since I've started my little blurbs in June, folks have been messaging me directly. It's been great but there's been a bit of a misalignment. I've had to be very clear with people about what I can and cannot entertain right now. So far, no one has taken offense.
#๏ธโฃ I had over 2.5k eyes on my post last week. I've been in the social media game since 2019 and nothing I've ever made has had this sort of engagement. I'm genuinely curious about what brings folks to corner of the Internet. Please: leave a comment because I really want to know.
๐ค If I were to take a stab at why folks find my posts engaging, I'd say it's the authenticity and my tone of voice. No offense but a boatload of folks on LinkedIn speak in Corporate-ese.
Corporate-ese is a unique America dialect that people adopt to navigate the workplace. I've tried speaking this dialect. It doesn't work for me. Maybe it's because I'm a black woman or maybe it cause I can't quite make it roll off my tongue but I've decided to give it up.
๐๏ธ My home life is going well. My legs are still healthy. I've recovered well from my breast reduction, so much so that I can cook for the family again. My spouse is grateful. Please, he said, Save us from ourselves. The hard rice from their failed attempt at curry tofu is still raw in our minds.
๐ฐ My severance has run out. Georgia keeps denying my unemployment claims. I have no interviews lined up. I continue to pray.
โ๐ฟ I plan on taking a game writer course with ELVTR. I've been raising money for the cause. I need roughly $650 to take the course on October. Any donations would be helpful. Marketing isn't my jam but I'm a damn great writer. Only so much can be said about that.
I want to know how everyone is. Truly. How are you?
